Agricultural Economics
Agricultural economics is an applied field of economics concerned with the application of economic theory in optimizing the production and distribution of food and fiber. The field of agricultural economics deals with the problems of the farms as the units of industry, the income earnings and spending activities of the farms and also the management of farm business and bringing necessary changes according to the situation so as to bring stability to farm income. The Section of Agricultural Economics at Shriram College of Agriculture, Paniv was established in August, 2013. The Agricultural Economics section in the college is basically includes different disciplines viz., Production Economics, Agribusiness Management, Agricultural Finance, Agricultural Marketing etc.
Graduates from Agricultural and applied economics departments find jobs in many sectors of the economy: agricultural management, agribusiness, commodities markets, education, the financial sector, government, real estate, and public relations.

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES
- To maximize profitability in agriculture to the benefit of society through studying and analyzing the aspects that influences the agricultural economy and distribution of resources, such as land, raw materials, labour and machinery.
- To provide knowledge and help for better management of farms resources and increase farmers income.
- To provide theoretical as well as practical knowledge of Agricultural Economics to undergraduate students.

DEPARTMENT ACTIVITIES
- Economics department also arrange different study tour/visits related to course work.
- Guiding the students in preparing for ICAER/MCAER, other competitive examination.
- Advise the students and farmers in agricultural sector on issues such as financing, marketing, agricultural development, research and production.
- As the Department is also running an ELE ECON 354 Module on Agribusiness Management which is offered to the students during the V Semester through which the students can how to start their own enterprise and also do marketing successfully.
- The Staff members of this section has also guided the students in respect of how to work out economics of different crops and how to prepare bankable project proposal for the same in various modules of Experiential Learning in the semester VII and VIII.
