Plant Pathology

Plant Pathology (Phytopathology) is the branch of Agriculture which deals with study of diseases of fruits, flowers, vegetables, aromatic crops and ornamental crops, medicinal plants with their causal organism, perpetuation, and management practices of various plant diseases. Plant Pathology is a branch of agricultural science that deals with the study of fungi, bacteria, viruses, nematodes, and other microbes that cause diseases of plants. The branch focuses on understanding how hosts, pathogens, and environments interact to cause plant diseases and on understanding how to control plant diseases. 

OBJECTIVES

  1. To acknowledge students about living entities that causes diseases in plants.
  2. To acknowledge students about the non-living entities and the environmental conditions that causes disorders in plants.

iii. To acknowledge students about the mechanisms by which the disease causing agents produce diseases by interactions between the disease causing agents and host plant in relation to overall environment.

  1. To acknowledge students about the method of preventing or management the diseases and reducing the losses/damages caused by diseases.

SCOPE

            Plant pathology comprises with the basic knowledge and technologies of Botany, Plant Anatomy, Plant Physiology, Mycology, Bacteriology, Virology, Nematology, Genetics, Molecular Biology, Genetic Engineering, Biochemistry, Horticulture, Tissue Culture, Soil Science, Forestry, Physics.

Biofertilizers/ Biopesticides Module

            Shiram college of Agriculture offer Biofertilizer module under the university norms, each year 25 students offered biofertitizer module under that mass production of PSB, Rhizobium, Azotobacter and Azospirillum carried out and it made available to farmer in Malshiras area.

Mushroom production unit

            Nutritional and medicinal value of mushroom. Morphology and types of mushroom. Material equipment and basic facilities required for mushroom entrepreneurship. Preparation of mushroom culture by tissue isolation method. Spawn production: Types of spawn and method of spawn production. Preparation of compost for button mushroom production. Preparation of substrate for oyster mushroom production. Spawning and methods of spawning. Casing for button mushroom production and after care during spawn run. In button and oyster mushroom production. Harvesting indices, packing and preservation of Button. Harvesting indices, packing and preservation of oyster mushroom. Preparation of mushroom recipes. Disease management in mushroom production. Pest management in mushroom production. Methods of disinfection and fumigation in Mushroom house.
